From Dessau to Lauffen on Inland Waterways
Slowly and carefully, the heavy steel components roll across the shipyard’s premises. Transporting project cargo with more than 40 tons unit weight is a task for experts, no matter the distance.
The six heavy lift units which are starting their journey today are bound for Lauffen, at the river Neckar, situated a few kilometres south of Heilbronn.
The spacious barge is already waiting at the pier with open hatches, ready to accept the cargo. The barge has been chartered especially for the transport of these six units, which will be installed to construct a working flood gate at the final destination.
The crane picks up the heavy pieces from the dockyard transporter and lifts them over the pier, directly into the barge’s hold.
The stevedores inside the hold are standing by to receive the cargo. They will place the units safely into the correct position and secure them properly for transport.
The various accessories fit comfortably into the spacious hold. A thorough stowage planning is crucial for a successful transport. That applies for any form of shipment – not just for seabound cargo.

Lengthy and expensive route surveys can be avoided and the shipper saves money otherwise spent on transport permits and traffic control measures, such as the costly removal of obstacles, road repairs and tree surgery.
